Renting in Gurugram: A Guide for Working Professionals

Many professionals move to Gurugram for work, and most start by renting. The city has a huge range of options — from studio apartments to builder floors and high-rise societies. Here's how to find the right place quickly.

Start with your office

Gurugram's traffic makes the commute the most important factor. Shortlist areas within a reasonable distance of your office, and check whether you can use the Rapid Metro or the Yellow Line.

Builder floor or society flat?

• Builder floors in older sectors usually offer more space and privacy and sometimes lower rent, but security and power backup vary
• Gated societies offer security, power backup, a gym and pool, but often higher rent plus maintenance charges

What to check on a visit

• power backup — full or partial, and how it's charged
• water supply and quality
• parking for your car or bike
• the building's security and lighting at night
• mobile signal and broadband availability
• the walk or drive to the nearest metro or main road

Costs beyond the rent

• security deposit — commonly one to three months' rent
• society maintenance — check whether it's included
• electricity — often on a prepaid or separate meter
• brokerage, if you use an agent

The rent agreement
